The story of the five girls emerging from Shiva's hair is the central mythological theme of this Manjusha painting without frame. In Manjusha folklore, five of Lord Shiva’s hair strands fell into Sonada Lake while he bathed. These strands transformed into lotus flowers, from which five girls emerged. After proving their divinity, Shiva accepted them as his daughters, the Bishahari sisters: Jaya, Dhothila, Padmavathi , Mynah , and Maya . Known as Manasaputri , these goddesses are worshipped in the Anga region for protection against snake venom.
