Kheta is an intricate quilting art form from Bihar, practiced exclusively by women of the Shershabadi community in the Kishanganj district. It involves stitching together layers of old saris to create reversible quilts with dense, geometric patterns created through linear stitches that form diagonal designs. The craft is a cultural practice passed down through generations of women in the Shershabadi community. It fosters a unique bond among the women and is also a means of empowerment.Patterns are inspired by nature, such as ripples on rivers ("lahori"), bamboo forests ("biskut"), or even bamboo mats ("chatai").The process involves a high degree of intuitive visual calculation, and women physically walk over the layers to create the initial stay stitches.
