The 'munga' variety of silk is found and widely used in the textile industry in Bhagalpur, Bihar, primarily mixed with Tussar silk. Although pure 'Muga' silk is a unique and precious fiber endemic to the state of Assam, recognized with a Protected Geographical Indication (GI tag),in Bhagalpur, manufacturers use Munga yarn (along with Tussar, Eri, Matka, etc.) to create a variety of blended silk fabrics, sarees, dupattas, and stoles. The resulting fabric is often referred to as "Tussar Munga Silk" or "Bhagalpuri Munga Silk" and is known for its coarse texture and natural gold colour.
